EcoFlow STREAM microinverter in the UK: price, specs, and the catch
The EcoFlow STREAM 800 W microinverter costs about £123 to £129 and is the cheapest route into plug-in solar if you own panels. Here is what it is, how it compares with Hoymiles, APsystems and SolaX, and what is not yet proven.
Rules and product details last checked on .

Key takeaways
- The EcoFlow STREAM 800 W microinverter has been listed between £122.55 and £129 in our checks, against a £179 list price shown earlier and £149 on some listings.
- It is the inverter half of a kit, not a kit. The listing is titled “without PV cable”, so panels, cabling and mounting are separate purchases.
- Direct rivals cost about the same. Hoymiles, APsystems and SolaX 800 W units sit between roughly £119 and £143 on the listings we saw.
- Price is not the deciding factor. Evidence is. The law is written around a complete package certified against the government specification, and we could not find a type-test reference on EcoFlow’s page.
- If you already own compatible panels it is the cheapest way in. If you are starting from nothing, the complete kit is a simpler buy.
Search “EcoFlow microinverter” and you get the shop page, a handful of video reviews, and very little that tells you what it does not prove. This page is the short version of both halves.
What it is
The STREAM microinverter takes the DC output of your panels and turns it into the 230 V AC your home runs on, the component the law regulates. EcoFlow’s page describes it as rated at 800 W, IP67 water resistant, Wi-Fi connected and monitored through the STREAM app, and says it works with 99 per cent of solar panels. That last figure is EcoFlow’s marketing claim; we have not tested it.
800 W is the legal ceiling for AC output under the statutory definition, so this is the largest a plug-in inverter can be.

Read this as a range, not a ranking. These are snapshots of listings from different sellers, sale prices move, and star ratings from a handful of votes tell you almost nothing. We have not tested any of them.
What you still have to buy
The inverter alone is not a working system. You need panels sized for it (the specification permits up to 2,000 W of panels on the DC side, with a recommendation for professional assessment above 960 W), cables, and a way to mount them. EcoFlow also sells rigid panels and brackets; a mounting bracket showed at £59 in the listings we saw.
If you would rather not assemble parts, the complete STREAM kit bundles all of it, at a price we track in our buying guide.
The catch
The law does not describe an inverter you buy separately and wire up yourself. It describes a plug-in microgenerator sold and certified as a package. We explain why that distinction matters in our microinverter guide, and it is the honest caveat on any inverter-only purchase, EcoFlow’s included.
Separately, the microinverter needs a type-test entry before a network operator can accept it. EcoFlow, Hoymiles, Enphase and Deye all appear as manufacturers in the industry register, but EcoFlow’s product page did not carry a reference when we looked, so you should ask for one, and notify your operator either way.
